Hair Restoration Alternative
“Dr Nel explained everything very clearly and was most helpful. He never tried to force me into anything or pressed me into any treatment. He gave his expert knowledge and advice freely and I’m most grateful.” – Desiree
SMP replicates the natural appearance of hair follicles.
It is a cosmetic tattoo treatment that was developed to address unsightly scalp and hair conditions.
There are an increasing number of people who have cosmetic problems with their hair which are caused from dermatologic and/or genetic conditions, scars from accidents or plastic surgeries. Micropigmentation of the scalp is a safe and effective technique for camouflaging some of these scalp problems.
How Does SMP Work?
SMP also known as scalp micropigmentation or trichopigmentation, involves using specialised needles to implant coloured pigments/inks into the scalp, face or body. We can replicate the appearance of a hair follicle, create density and camouflage hair loss for both men and women.
SMP essentially reduces the amount of light that is reflected from the scalp.
By minimising the contrast between scalp and hair colour, the illusion of hair density becomes enhanced. SMP can be used in areas of thinning as well as on a completely bald scalp.
The SMP Procedure
It is relatively pain free as tiny needles are used to place ink into the superficial skin of the scalp. SMP dots are made on the scalp which simulate follicles markings (shadowing) of the scalp.
Scalp Micropigmentation normally takes place over 2 sessions, with the first session (3 to 4 hours, depending on the area covered) taking slightly longer than the second session. The second session is done 4 to 8 weeks after the first session.
Who is a Suitable Candidate?
Scalp Micropigmentation is suited to all skin types. The pigment colour selected is dependent on the hair colour and skin colour and the contrast in colour between the hair and scalp.
The treatment is suitable for both women and men. It can be used for almost all types of hair loss, including scarring of the scalp and also for patients with complete hair loss.
